RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Research Experience

  1. About 4 years of research experience in the field of insect cytogenetics, particularly on aphids (Homoptera : Aphididae) collected mainly from different parts of north-eastern Himalayas.

 2. After Ph.D. thesis submission, worked as Senior Research Fellow of CSIR, New Delhi for two years on a problem entitled “Banding studies of chromosomes in some polyphagous aphids (Homoptera : Aphididae) with particular reference to karyotypic variations and host plant preference”.

3.Worked as a Research Associate, in a DBT Scheme entitled “Molecular characterization of baculovirus for control of certain insect pests” in the Division of Entomology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi – 110012, from February’1990 to June’1990.

 4. From June’1990 to June’1994 worked as a Research Scientist under National Institute of Malaria Research (Formerly known as Malaria Research Centre), Indian Council of Medical Research, Field Station Chennai, Tamilnadu. The work involved field level research work to test the feasibility of bio-environmental control of malaria in Chennai, field testing of new methodologies like efficacy of biolarvicides, several other indigenous products and related laboratory work.

 5. From July 1994 to January 1998 worked as Senior Research Scientist in the same field station. The job involved various field and laboratory studies. From September’1994, I was entrusted with the additional responsibility of Officer-in-charge for the NIMR, field station Chennai. The job involved administration and research, including planning; coordination with State Govt., Local bodies and several NGO’s related to malariogenic stratification of Urban municipalities endemic for malaria in Tamilnadu. Sibling species and vectorial capacity of vector mosquitoes, planning, execution of laboratory and field research studies, including report writing.

 6. From 19.1.1998 worked as Senior Lecturer, in the Department of Zoology, Vidyasagar College for Women, under Calcutta University, Kolkata – 700006. I was promoted to the post Reader/ Associate Professor in the same college from June’1999, and had worked in the same post till 02.07.2015.From 03.07.2015 till date working as Principal, Surendranath College, Kolkata

ACHIEVEMENTS

Other Important achievements/ Assignments/ Activities/ Trainings

Technical Reports/ Publications :

  1. Seven Point Action Plan for Malaria control in Madras (Chennai) City was prepared and presented for implementation to the Tamil Nadu Govt. during 1990. Various measures initiated by the Govt. of Tamilnadu and The Madras Corporation indicated better control over malaria in days ahead.
  2. A study was conducted with the request from the Govt. of Tamilnadu, in Dindigul Municipality during 1994 to assess the problem of malaria and suggested measures for its control. An action plan for control of malaria in Dindigul Municipality, Tamilnadu was prepared and presented during 1996. The action indicated a reduction of malaria cases from over 10,000 during 1993/94 to less than 300 during 1997.

Ph.D Thesis Evaluation :

Appointed as  the examiner for evaluation of Ph.D thesis by the University of Madras during 2001-02. ,2005-06 and  2013-14,Successfully completed the assignments.
